Sharon McLaughlin said LEAP was a great initiative for the performers involved, promoting the cafe to start its own busking program.
Busking will be available every Saturday for two hours and is open to any local musician, no matter their age, to be part of.
“It just enables them to play somewhere in town where they have a big audience,” Ms McLaughlin said.
“It’s one or two artists per week and whatever they make is theirs to keep and we provide them with lunch.”
The first busking session will be held this Saturday between 11am and 2pm, featuring young performers Georgia Sonter, 18, and Madi Hodder, 16.
Both girls were part of LEAP and said that the chance to busk is fantastic for building confidence as a performer.
“For people who haven’t had much experience before, it is a great idea,” Ms Sonter said.
Ms McLaughlin said the main thing now is that people come along to support the buskers each Saturday.
“I don’t want them busking and sitting there without an audience,” she said.
“If you’re walking past, drop a coin in for them; I think it would really make their day to go home with some money.”
Musicians who would like to busk at Mad Season Cafe are asked to call in at 49 William Street, phone 6332 9327 or send an email to themadseasoncafe@gmail.com.
