Not everyone is forgiving Mel Gibson as Hacksaw Ridge opens strongly

You would think a decade of Hollywood exile would be enough. Mel Gibson's 2006 drunk-driving arrest and anti-Semitic slurs pretty much stalled his career until Hacksaw Ridge. But even though the Australian war drama has opened to widespread acclaim in the US and Australia – 120 positive reviews and just 20 negative ones so far according to one website – not everyone is prepared to forgive. What producer Bill Mechanic calls "the Mel haters" have not all been won over by the film.
