Two people have been charged and the baby is in the care of the Department of Family and Community Services.
Police said they stopped a Nissan utility containing two men, a woman and the baby on the Silver City Highway north of Dareton, about 280 km south of Broken Hill, at about 5.30pm on Friday.
The driver, a 29-year-old man, returned a negative result on a breath test, but a search of the car allegedly found suspected methylamphetamine, heroin and pills in a baby formula tin.
Police estimate the drugs have a potential street value of more than $20,000.
A 25-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were both charged with supplying a prohibited drug (indictable quantity) and possessing a prohibited drug. They were refused bail to appear at Wentworth Local Court on Saturday.
The 29-year-old male driver of the Nissan was released pending further inquiries.
