On Saturday at Brooke Moore Oval when suffering a 41-run loss against Rugby Union, ORC were stung by dropping Ryan Peacock (100 not out) and Jameel Qureshi (51 not out).
That came a week after ORC went down to Centennial Bulls after grassing catches from Josh Toole (93) and Aaron Seymour (79 not out).
“The last two weeks we’ve had Tooley, Aaron Seymour, Ryan and Jameel score 300-odd runs against us after we dropped chances off them early,” ORC skipper Trent Fitzpatrick said.
“That is just killing us at the moment, against that sort of calibre of player you just can’t do that.
“We dropped Ryan very early, he wouldn’t have had five runs and he went on to make 100. That really hurt us.
“What he is doing at the moment is fantastic and he’s going to go a long way I think.
“When we dropped Jameel, I suppose he was around 15-20 at the time.”
It was Fitzpatrick who sent Rugby Union in to bat first after winning the toss on Saturday.
While Gus Daymond (1-19) and Charlie Coggan (1-25) were both good off their eight overs, a better effort in the field could have seen ORC chasing a smaller total.
Peacock cracked triple figures on the final ball of the 40th over, seeing Rugby reach 199.
In reply James Tristrum continued his impressive start to the season with the ball for Rugby.
He dismissed Fitzpatrick, Wayne Sellers and Jeremy Judge cheaply to take his tally of wickets for the season to 11.
“He [Tristrum] was very good for them … we were four for not many early on and after that things were always going to be fairly hard,” Fitzpatrick said.
“Brooke Moore plays a little different to other wickets in Bathurst, so next time we play there we will need to bat with more discipline.”
Though Brad Glasson (45) and Clint Bryant (46 not out) fought hard with the bat, ORC was all out for 158.
