That was the advice magistrate Darryl Pearce gave home grower Kevin John Sowrey when he fronted Albury Local Court for sentence this week.
The court heard how the 62-year-old used cannabis for several ailments, including depression, skin cancer and arthritis.
“You are not permitted to go out and grow your own crops,” Mr Pearce told Sowrey before placing him on an 18-month good behaviour bond.
He warned Sowrey that if he broke the law again “don’t be surprised if (the magistrate) sends you to jail”.
Sowrey pleaded guilty to cultivate and possess cannabis over 16 plants found at his home on March 31.
