It was written by a Jamaican (Evan Jones), produced by a Norwegian-born Brit (George Willoughby) and starred an Englishman (Gary Bond), but the 1971 feature Wake in Fright is considered by many the best Australian film ever made. Which may be why its Canadian director, Ted Kotcheff, can't quite believe it is being remade for television.
