All versions of it that I have seen are indeed exceedingly colourful and most enjoyable.
This production is clearly great fun for the budding young stars and it is a wonderful opportunity for the younger members of our Bathurst community to perform - to spread their wings and extend their capabilities and with such a splendid result.
Under the auspices of the extremely capable and very clever Roland Auguszczak, we are carried along on the wings of such beautiful music that it is easy to imagine gently drifting along with the current, in and out among the seaweed.
It is a firm foundation supporting great vocal talents.
There are beautiful harmonies from the mersisters and evident in the chorus scenes.
Truly everyone gets to shine.
There are some roles which are naturally stand outs – Ariele with her clear voice full of both innocence and passion, the very handsome young Prince Eric, a fresh faced young talent. It is easy to see why Ariel falls in love with him.
Altogether it is a very pleasing, easy to watch production.
- Kate Hanlon
Ursula being diabolically evil almost stealing the scene and then there are some much smaller ones which equally stand out – the amazing Chef Louis – the very fierce, crazy French chef with his slicing and dicing his seafood meals.
And then there is Triton, big tough Triton who plays it strong and fiery while even Scuttle is engaging and nearly steals the scene.
The production allows so many of the children to ‘showcase’ their talents and no one performance appears to crowd out any of the others.
The scenery is likewise magnificent and able to encourage us to join in and go swimming whilst the costumes rendered me almost speechless – such intricacies of styles and shadings, cleverly put together by very talented and patient costumiers.
They more than hold their own against the backgrounds.
They are inspirational and several more adjectives which escape me at the moment.
Altogether it is a very pleasing, easy to watch production, ably compiled with a wisely competent director lead Bronwyn Colley and assisted by Kyle Palmer and aided and abetted with a cast of very talented young performers. Go see.
- Disney Little Mermaid Junior will have two performances at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre on Sunday, November 27 at noon and 3.30pm. Purchase your tickets.
