The local franchise is joining other Radio Rentals stores around the country in taking a stand against domestic violence through the Wear-a-Pair campaign.
Both male and female staff members will wear a pair of women’s high heels during their shifts, having sought sponsorship from family, friends and the community.
As Friday is White Ribbon Day, staff will not only be raising funds, but raising awareness as well.
White Ribbon Day is the world’s largest movement to end men’s violence against women.
Statistics show that one woman is killed in Australia every week as a result of domestic violence, while one in four children are exposed to domestic violence.
Radio Rentals signed a four-year partnership with White Ribbon Australia in November 2015 to help with raising awareness about the issue in an effort to combat the alarming statistics.
Thorn Group CEO James Marshall said the participation of Radio Rentals staff in the Wear-a-Pair campaign will help draw attention to White Ribbon Day.
“Seemingly lighthearted, the Wear-a-Pair drive is actually a symbolic gesture to spend a day walking in the shoes of women in the community who may be affected by domestic violence,” he said. “The Radio Rentals Wear-a-Pair drive is about empathy and taking a stance against domestic violence in our community.”
White ribbons can be purchased from Radio Rentals on Friday to support the cause.
