CREWS are on scene at a fire burning at the council tip at Hill End.
The fire, which is under five hectares in size, spread to a grassed area outside the tip, however, this has now been extinguished.
NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) Chifley/Lithgow Team Superintendent Greg Sim said the fire appears to have started due to the heat in the combustible materials at the tip igniting.
“The grass next to the tip was on fire, but it’s now been extinguished and it’s [the remaining fire] contained to the tip,” he said.
RFS volunteer firefighters from Hill End, Eglinton and Turondale brigades are in attendance.
Bathurst Regional Council are sending crews and equipment to the scene.
Superintendent Sim said additional resources including heavy plant equipment, bulk water supplies and firefighting foam.
