The Amanda Turnbull trained and driven Tact Tate ($3.60) won by a half head, over Eglinton trainer and driver Nathan Hurst’s Saloon Passage ($21.30).
It was a drama-filled race, with Messini ($3.20) finishing in a dead-heat with Saloon Passage.
Messini was later disqualified for contacting the marker pegs.
The second place finish for Saloon Passage, was the six-year-old bay gelding’s 44th place from 66 starts.
The gelding has been racing strong this season, with nine places from 11 starts. “It was a really good race and once Tact Tate took to the front, it was going to be hard to beat,” Hurst said.
“He’s [Saloon Passage] had a good season and he’s been racing consistently, so hopefully he can keep going with it. With the weather warmer up, will keep him racing in Bathurst, so he doesn’t have to travel to much.”
Hurst said the first and second placings to Bathurst drivers shows how strong the sport is in the town.
The New Zealand-bred horse has been described as a lazy horse at home, who does not like being pushed.
Yet the gelding performs when it is needed most – on the track, during race day.
