Parade is always fascinated with the baby names lists, particularly whether parents are sticking to the traditional names or coming up with their own.
Baby Centre this month released its most popular girls and boys names lists for Australia.
The top five girls names are Charlotte, Ava, Olivia, Amelia and Lily, while the top five boys names are Oliver, Noah, Jack, William and Lucas.
Parade took a look back through the Western Advocate’s new arrivals throughout 2016 and found that not many aligned with the trends.
There were a handful of babies that featured Amelia or Oliver as a first or middle name and a few less named Lily, Noah or William.
The remaining names rarely got a mention.
One baby was particularly on trend, however, his parents choosing the name Oliver William.
In Bathurst, Rose and Chloe were far more popular for baby girls, while James and Archie or Archer ranked quite high for boys names.
Not one of those names made it into the top 10 on the Baby Centre lists.
Maybe the baby names in Bathurst will influence the most popular lists this time next year.
First sighting of the season
IT’S that time of year again where the insect most people don’t mind so much starts to come out.
Parade caught sight of her first Christmas beetle on Monday morning.
The metallic beetle was making its way up the steps leading to her office.
Now, Parade isn’t much of a fan of insects in general, so her first sighting filled her with dread.
She has been hit far too many times by the “clumsy fliers” – as described by Wikipedia – to look at them with any kind of affection.
Other less terrified Bathurst residents may be far more fond of them, though.
For those who do rejoice at the sight of a Christmas beetle, they’ll be happy to know that the Australian Museum is developing an app.
It will be used for people to identify the beetles they see this season and name them.
