Of these, 20 landholders have been offered contracts for the total funding of $177,671, subject to attendance and relative training.
The report touches on the Green Army’s 20 million trees projects and states that army teams conducted works on 13 project sites.
My involvement with the Green Army has shown me there are a number of sensible, willing workers who have future workforce qualities such as WHS awareness, punctuality, respect for workplace directions, teamwork and pride in their environmental projects.
Some graduates will be a valuable asset to a future employer.
Treating lice
SEVERAL times each week I’m asked how to best treat mobs of sheep that are carrying a lice infestation as this problem is causing concern in a lot of flocks.
Many producers have used Avenge pour-on this spring and good results are expected.
Please take plenty of time, have at least one spare applicator and read the manufacturer’s recommendations well (and follow them).
Rippa Dippa plunge machines or the immersion contractor should give good results and Assassin chemical is a popular choice.
Lice are easy to kill, but the chemical has to wet them and one missed sheep will make your whole job useless.
Moving sales
A COST analysis report prepared by Deloitte Access Economics reveals that moving the Yennora Wool selling centre to a proposed Goulburn site would reduce wool storage costs by more than half of the $117 per square metre showroom cost at present.
The Australian Wool Handlers lease at Yennora, near Fairfield in western Sydney, expires in December 2017, almost 20 years since the last wool auction was held in Goulburn.
AWH’s Goulburn site is presently leased by Elders, Landmark, AWN, Schute Bell and TWG.
The proposal includes a wool museum, public auction viewing area and is close to the Big Merino.
I think it would be a great spot to relocate the Shearers Hall of Fame from Hay as well.
Laugh lines
A number of doctors were asked their opinion on a new wing at the town’s hospital.
- Allergists voted to scratch it.
- Neurologists thought that management had a lot of nerve.
- Podiatrists said it was a step forward.
- Ophthalmologists considered the idea short-sighted.
- Plastic surgeons supported a facelift of the building.
- Morticians said “over my dead body”.
- Surgeons just wanted to wash their hands of the matter.
- Cardiologists didn’t have the heart to say no.
