The Blayney girls knocked off a fancied Newport Public School in their final four clash, earning the winning runs via a wide on the final ball of their semi-final clash.
In the PSSA final chasing Tamworth Public School’s 3-103, Matt Dunn’s team needed 22 runs off the final four overs to win.
They did it – thanks to skipper Erryn Payne and Chloe Read – easily, too, securing the 2016 title with an over to spare.
It was an impressive effort in 35 degree heat at Maitland, the strong effort in the field setting up the win.
“I think [it] aged me 10 years,” Dunn laughed, recalling the final-ball Newport win. “We’ve played [Newport] in the semis for the last three years and they’ve beaten us in close games.
“In the end we scored two runs because they bowled a wide and then we hit another run on the next ball.”
