Kathryn Bancroft and Noel Thomas each received a Meritorious Service Award, the second-highest National Trust honour, which is presented for “consistent outstanding voluntary service for a period in excess of 15 years in one or more areas of activity of the Trust”.
Each recipient receives a polished silver medal, and no more than six Meritorious Service Awards are awarded in any financial year.
Tim Cox received a Trust Commendation, which is presented for “consistent outstanding voluntary service for a period in excess of five years in one or more areas of activity of the Trust”.
Each recipient receives a matt bronze medal, and no more than 12 Trust Commendations are awarded in any financial year.
Mr Thomas was presented with his award for 43 years of voluntary service at Miss Traill’s House and Garden as a member of the Central West Regional Committee and Miss Traill’s House and Garden Management Committee.
Mr Cox received his award in recognition of his service as maintenance supervisor and member of the Miss Traill’s House and Garden Management Committee.
Ms Bancroft received her award for 40 years of service to Miss Traill’s House and Garden as a volunteer guide.
Both Mr Thomas and Mr Cox were presented with their award by National Trust NSW properties manager Richard Silink at the recent annual general meeting of the National Trust of Australia (NSW) in Sydney.
Because Ms Bancroft was unable to attend the AGM, she received her award from Mr Silink during the recent Miss Traill’s House and Garden Volunteers Christmas party at “Woolstone", Kelso.
Mr Silink also presented long service appreciation certificates to a number of volunteers.
Because a number of long-serving house guides are retiring, new house guides are being sought for Miss Traill’s House.
People who love history, historic houses and tranquil gardens, and who enjoy meeting new people, are asked to phone guide co-ordinator Lyn Haley on 6368 5851 for more information.
Volunteers can choose to guide once a month on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
