Scots School fee drop will not impact student numbers at All Saints' College

The Scots School recently announced a significant drop in fees for students in all years that will commence from 2017, with marketing by the school boasting reductions in tuition fees by an average of 30 per cent.

Annual costs for a kindergarten student would drop from $5840 to $4680 (24.7 per cent drop), while tuition for a Year 12 student had been reduced from $19,472 to $14,220 (down 36.9 per cent).

Socts School headmaster David Gates said last month: “The fee restructure was possible due to many years of outstanding financial management and the fact that the school is free of debt.”

“The fee restructure positions the school to continue to provide a quality education at a level more affordable to a greater range of families living in Bathurst and regional centres across the Central West.”

But, All Saints' College headmaster Steven O'Connor said the Scots’ fee reductions will have no impact on his school.

“We’re not anticipating it will affect enrolment numbers for us,” he said.

“We’re [the two schools] really quite different, different clientele with a different emphasis on programs.

“It’s important to have a diverse range of schools in the community.”

Mr O’Conner said he was unable to provide the Western Advocate with a fee schedule for All Saints’ College tuition to allow for a comparison between the two schools.

He did, however, say it was not up to him to judge why a school would drop its fees so significantly.

“Each school is able to determine their own fees,” Mr O’Connor said.

St Stanislaus’ College was contacted for a comment for this story, but did not provide one.
