An annual under 16s Sydney Grade Cricket competition, the AW Green Shield sees some of the state’s best emerging talents battle in 50-overs-a-side format matches.
Mitchell’s shield debut did not last long as Sydney Uni’s opening round match against Bankstown was washed-out after just one over.
In the second round Sydney Uni hosted Sutherland, opting to bat first after winning the toss.
Batting at number four, Mitchell made a quick-fire 22 off 21 deliveries, his knock including one boundary and a six as he helped Uni reach 6-193 off 50 overs.
It was a total which Sutherland ran down in the 46th over with five wickets in hand, but Mitchell backed up his batting efforts with a solid bowling performance in a defeated side.
His nine overs included two maidens as he finished with 1-26.
In round three Uni suffered a hefty 87-run loss against Eastern Suburbs at Waverley Oval, but Mitchell was once more impressive in a beaten side.
He made 57 off 53 deliveries in the unsuccessful chase – 20 of those runs coming from boundaries - giving him a strike rate of 106.8 heading into the Christmas break.
Mitchell will resume his campaign on January 3.
