Social Bowls
Rink winners of the Tuesday Social Bowls competition this week were the Mick Sewell, Bruce Parr and Kerry Conner’s combination who won their match 29-18 against Paul Kennedy, Ian Dews and Frank Farrell.
Jumping early from the blocks, the Sewell team were 8-0 by the fourth end but is was back even after the eighth end at 8-all.
From here the Sewell team scored nine in a four end run and were 20-11 in front after the 12th end.
The Kennedy team scored a four in the 13th end but they could not get on top of the Sewell team who maintained a steady scoring rate to run out 11 shot winners.
Rhys Harvey and Greg Quartly-Scott, in his last game before moving to Sydney for a two year spell of study, scored a close fought 21-15 win over Allan Clark and Bob Jenkins.
The scores were even after the fifth, seventh and ninth ends with neither team giving an inch.
The Clark team edged to the front in the tenth end but the Harvey team came back in the 16th with a four-shot win to grab the lead at 12-10.
The Clark team came back again with a one and two to hold a one shot lead, however, a five then three win by the Harvey team in the next two ends was too much for the Clark team and they went down by six.
John Hobson, Butch Stevens and Athol Flanagan won a tough 23-16 encounter against Peter Naylor, Ted Crouch and Tony McNamara, after the Hobson team controlled the match for the first ten ends.
Kevin Howard, Jim Clark and Phil Cummings combined to score a 16-13 win over Daryl Bellamy, Jim Clark and Ian Warren, despite the Bellamy team holding the lead for most of the first 14 ends.
Rink winners of the Saturday Social Competition were Allan Clark, Mick Simmonds and Kevin Howard with a 26-16 win over Paul Kennedy, Robert Boyce and Ron Hollibone, despite the match being all even after the fourth, sixth, ninth, and 11th ends.
Tony McNamara and Paul Reece won their match 37-14 against Tiger Smith and Gus Thurgood, and then took out the jackpot after the match for a great Christmas present.
Winning 16 of the 25 ends played, it was a dominant performance by the McNamara team with the Smith team making it to double figures in the 22nd end.
Another dominant display was posted by the Gary Cameron, Ken Hartwig and Peter Drew team with a 29-16 win over Peter Naylor, Corey Klower and Barney Lavelle.
Rhys Harvey, Barry Quigley and Butch Stevens scraped home with a 20-19 win over Glenn Urza, Daryl Bellamy and Scott Chapman in a tough hard fought match.
Club Championships
Daryl Whitton and David Josh played an outstanding game to take a 27-11 win over John Hobson and Ron McGarry in a first round Major Pairs Championship match.
Jumping to a 3-0 lead by the third end, the Whitton team were never headed and with a six-end run from the fifth end to collect ten shots, the score line was 13-2 after the tenth end and the Hobson team were struggling.
With the scores at 14-5 after the 13th end, the Hobson team scored a four in the 14th to keep them in the match.
But the Whitton team response was a run of five ends for a score of 12 to put the result beyond doubt, winning by 16 points.
Well readers, just one more report to go for the year and remember Majellan Social Bowls will continue right through with Tuesday and Saturday Bowls scheduled for the lead up to and including New Year’s Eve.
Hope you had a great Christmas and Santa was good to you all.
