ONE win from 73 starts – it is not the sort of form which gets punters excited, but The Lagoon trainer Aaron Williams has a different opinion.

On Wednesday night at Parkes his five-year-old mare The Oriflamme posted the first win of her career in the annual Gig Series.
It qualified her for this Saturday’s 1,660 metres final and Williams thinks she could figure once more if she gets luck in the journey.
“I knew she needed a bit of luck from that [barrier four] draw in the heats because she’s got no gate speed. But they ran along and ran out of legs and she hung in there and got them,” he said.
“She’s pulled up really well after that run, so she’s definitely a little chance if she gets a bit of luck.
“We’ll just come out as hard as we can in the final and follow Nathan Turnbull’s horse [Peggys Legacy] who should cross. Hopefully Jake Davis’ horse [Rays Choice] crosses as well as we can get the one-one.”
By Jeremes Jet out of Our Annabelle, The Oriflamme is only new to Williams’ stable.
“My brother had her before I got her on behalf of him, I’ve only had her for the five starts,” he said.
“She did run some placings for Troy and he said she worked really good, but she just didn’t bring it to races.”
Williams is not the only Bathurst district chance in the $7,140 decider.
Trainer-driver Greg Rue will go from barrier one with Taylor Robin, while Mitch Turnbull will steer Peggys Legacy for his brother Nathan Turnbull from gate two.
