Alpha Styx finished a disappointing last in his latest start but Bathurst trainer Frisby will be hoping the four-year-old gelding can instead find the form that took him to back-to-back wins prior to that horror run.
It will be a difficult task for Alpha Styx, going out from gate five, against competition like Group 1 Breeders Challenge runner-up Sams The Master.
“He’s been going alright lately, but nothing exciting though. Against horses like Sams The Master he’s not in the same class,” he said.
”[Races like this] are good for him to see where he’s at and if he can make that next jump. He went pretty ordinary last week though, and I’m not sure whether that’s because he did too much early or something else. That’s got me a bit worried whether he can take that step up.
“If he went good enough I’d like to take him down to the bigger track at Menangle. Hopefully he can be up there because he always does his best work at the finish line.”
Alpha Styx has enjoyed five wins from his 16 career starts to date.
Wednesday night’s seven race meeting gets underway 6.10pm.
