The situation at Bathurst Jail has been contained by Corrective Services officers, with police and other emergency services standing down just after 4.20pm.
Earlier – 3.45pm
POLICE have shut down access to Browning Street and Brooke Moore Avenue following an ‘incident’ at the Bathurst Jail.
Police and other emergency services remain at the scene, as authorities continue to lock down the four wings of the jail.
The ‘incident’ is understood to involve 12 inmates with authorities concerned the situation may escalate.
A spokesperson for the Department of Corrective Services said they will release a statement shortly.
