If US President-elect Donald Trump wasn't enough to contend with, the former deputy mayor of Auburn, 30, told Fairfax Media he plans to return to politics to fulfil his humanitarian desires.
"My passion for politics remains ever so strong and hopefully I will be back doing what I love the most, helping others," he said, when asked about what he hoped for the year ahead.
Scant on detail, the controversial property developer would not be further drawn on his plans, however, he told Channel Nine in 2015: "I would like to start off by being in state, federal and I'd like to make my way up to the very top spot. That would [be] my dream come true."
He also would not confirm or deny whether the Mehajer family were planning a reality TV show, "similar to the Kardashians," he said.
"We definitely won't be writing it off from our play cards. It's all a business game... The year of 2017 will be a year we anticipate on working together and focusing on what matters to us the most, i.e. one another."
At a relatively young age, Mehajer already has a colourful political resume. He was suspended as deputy mayor of Auburn Council early last year and was accused of committing voter fraud in 2012, which he denies.
He also came to the attention of the Election Funding Authority after he missed the deadline to declare electoral spending and political donations for his failed bid for the seat of Auburn in the 2011 state election. He attracted a seven per cent first preference vote and no action was taken.
He first grabbed public attention in 2015 when he shut down a local street in the suburb of Lidcombe for his lavish nuptials to Aysha Learmonth .
In July, she took out an AVO against him preventing him from seeing or contacting her. He was also publicly embarrassed when videos of him allegedly threatening Aysha were broadcast by A Current Affair.
In September, he was disqualified from managing corporations for three years, "as a means of protecting others from his incompetence," the Australian Securities and Investments Commission announced.
