Women’s Masters 8 cyclist Hastings started off with a 220-metre handicap in the event and put in a determined ride to keep a chasing bunch behind her.
Hastings held on in a tense for to beat home Peta Brill and Kerry Seadon. Fellow Bathurst cyclist Brooke Tuynman wasn’t far away in fourth place.
”I had no expectations for it. Winning was just a bonus,” Hastings said.
“I got there just in front of the girls behind me. They had got in front of me once my bike was on the other side of the finish line.
“All the club members were there cheering on. They always give such good support.
“I had been training for a while and I had a bit of help from Marian Renshaw with what gearing to use, which helped me a lot.”
Hastings picked up a cool $250 for her win.
Bathurst Cycling Club was well represented in the race with Renee Covington, Tyler Buckley and Caroline Robertson also taking part.
Illawarra rider and Bathurst-born Zac Marshall was victorious in the men’s race.
Bathurst’s Harry Carter had to settle for the runner-up spot while Bathurst club rider and Orange native Harry Bryant was fifth.
