A SUNDAY morning update by the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) sill classes the Freemantle Road fire as ‘being controlled’.
The 78 hectare grass fire was attended by a number of Bathurst brigades as well as an aerial support helicopter.
“Bulldozers have been brought in to cut in containment lines and some crews have been able to head home for a well deserved rest,” Freemantle Rural Fire Brigade reported late on Saturday night.
“The fire is by no means out, still a long way to go yet.
“Aircraft will resume in the morning and hopefully they will get on top of it soon.”
Meanwhile, RFS and Fire and Rescue NSW crews were also also called to a fire at Bathurst tip on College Road overnight.
This fire is classed as ‘under control’.

BATHURST volunteer firefighters are fighting an out-of-control grass fire burning north-west of the city.
The 18-hectare blaze is off Freemantle Road at Gowan, with NSW Rural Fire Service crews from Freemantle, Eglinton and Bruinbun brigades in attendance.
The NSW Rural Fire Service’s (RFS) website indicates that the fire is at ‘advice’ level.
“[Advice means] a fire has started. There is no immediate danger. Stay up-to-date in case the situation changes,” the website states.
Also burning, is a 23-hectare grass fire at Burrendong Way, Mullion Creek north of Orange.
The fire is also listed at an ‘advice’ level, but is under control.
Meanwhile, a 2596 hectare fire east of Wellington remains out-of-control.
The fire is burning in hilly country between Wellington and Mudgee, off Uungula Road at Wuuluman.
“Firefighters and aircraft are working to keep the fire on the western side of the Cudgegong River,” the NSW RFS website states.
“Overnight fire activity was quiet which allowed firefighters to work on consolidating containment lines along the southern and eastern side of the fire. Work along Guroba Road, on the southern side of the fire, is continuing today.
“Crews are today concentrating their efforts on the east and north eastern side of the fire. Conditions today are more favourable which will assist firefighters in their containment efforts.”
The RFS said that back burning operations may be undertaken on Saturday evening if conditions are favourable.
“Residents to the west of the Cudgegong River should remain vigilant and follow the directions of firefighters,” the RFS website states.
“Residents and tourists on the eastern side of the Cudgegong River in the vicinity of Bimbajong, Narbethong, Glencoe, Yarrabin, Tacoola and the Cudgegong River Caravan Park should monitor conditions closely.”
