More than just an information session, kids were able to get up close and personal with insects brought to the city by the team from Travelbugs Mobile Mini-Beasts.

Council’s acting manager of museums, Janelle Middleton, said that by halfway through the day there had been around 200 adults and 400 kids through the door.

This makes Bug Day one of the museums most popular programs in recent times.

“It has just been amazing – we’ve had a line up out the door and around the building,” Ms Middleton said.

“I think people are starting to realise when we have kids activities, they are really good.”

Bug Day was led by Travelbugs founder Jacqui Love, who has been bringing her insects to schools and libraries for 14 years.

She was impressed to see so many kids attend the day and have a go at handling some of the insects, which included a variety of stick insects, millipedes and beetles.

“I think they love seeing the stick insects because they are all so different,” Ms Love said.

“I find every kid has a different favourite.”
