The day, which was first held in February 2014, was created as a way for Australians to give thanks to their firefighters.
”On February 28, 2017, we will once again be asking all Australians to show their support to our courageous men and women by flying a red balloon from their mailbox, fence, workplace, etc as a simple measure to say thank you firies,” event director Jody Hardiman said.
“Together with the sale of Red Balloons, and other merchandise which is available through our website www.nationalredballoonday.org, we hope to not only thank our firefighting heroes, but to assist in raising funds.”
Ms Hardiman said all profits from the fundraising event will go directly back to the state from which the items were purchased.
