Over the two hour session in Bathurst international-level kicking coach Damien Hill plus Samoa head coach and NSW Blues assistant coach Matt Parish will be on hand to take the juniors through drills.
The clinic will be one focused on the ‘spine’, tailored for fullbacks, halves and hookers.
NRL game development officer Dave Elvy said the coaching duo each bring a lot to Wednesday’s session.
“He’s a specialist kicking coach who has worked with a lot of NRL clubs. He’s been around for a while and has even been over to America to do work in the NFL. He’s also worked with the Wallabies and been around some high quality players,” he said.
“Matt Parish is going to be taking them through video sessions on NRL halves, like Jonathon Thurston and Cooper Cronk, and the things that they do well. Then he’ll do some catch and pass and general play work.
“He’s coached Samoa at the World Cup and has worked with the Blues and at Manly, plus he’s been a high performance manager at CRL. He loves doing this sort of stuff.”
Elvy said clinics like Wednesday’s are great opportunities for region’s players.
“It’s something great for the area. It improves their knowledge of the game and they can hopefully filter that back into their individual clubs,” he said.
“I think it’s really good that we can get these guys out here to teach because if the goal of these juniors is to make the Western Rams then this will help. It’s good for them to hear things from those who have coached at the highest level.
“A lot of clubs in the city do camps for hookers and halves but out here they’re normally training with their club.
“Getting this extra stuff will really help them out.”
The camp will run from 2pm to 4pm at Ashwood Park.
