Riding for the St George club, Bathurst’s Harry Carter claimed a gold in the elite men’s team pursuit thanks to a dominant performance in the final.
Carter and his team of Ben Harvey, Wesley Ho and Jordan Louis managed to catch their opposing St George club mates in the final. The team won in a time of four minutes and 17.81 seconds.
Bathurst duo Tyler Puzicha and Kalinda Robinson were just as impressive in claiming the 15s girls team sprint final gold.
Puzicha and Robinson won in time of 38.434 to see off their Illawarra rivals by more than three seconds.
The team pursuit gold is a big confidence booster for Carter going into the NSW U19 and Elite Individual Track Time Trial Championships this Friday..
”It was a great ride. It was the first team we had even ridden together as a team. We just turned up with no practice,” Carter said.
“To put the result in perspective, our NSW team at the Oceania Championships did it in a time of four minutes and 16 seconds. At the state champs on Saturday we did it in 4:17.
“It feels great to be a current state champ again. Last year I got a few silvers and bronze.”
Carter also picked up a silver in the elite men’s team sprint final alongside Ho and Louis. The trio finished 1.22 seconds behind the ANU outfit who won in a time of 47.050.
The Bathurst rider will be out this Friday to better his performance at last year’s individual state championships, where he claimed a silver in the scratch race and bronze in the points race.
Other Bathurst riders managed to produce podium performances at the team championships.
Eliza Bennett and Brooke Tuynman paired up to win a silver medal in the elite women’s team sprint final with a time of 37.85 seconds.
Renee Covington and Catherine Hooton claimed third place for the same event in a thrilling bronze medal final.
Covington and Hooton weren’t far away from their younger Bathurst counterparts as they came home in a time of 38.051. The pair finished just over half a second clear of their Hunter District challengers.
