Western suffered just one loss at the four-day carnival at Newcastle, but such was the close nature of the competition, they finished in fourth.
Still, it was a solid effort from Western. On Thursday they finished on a positive as they downed ACT Southern by 15 runs.
Though Broes (six) and Mitchell (eight) did not have much joy with the bat, Western made 245 after winning the toss and batting first.
The Bathurst duo each claimed a wicket – Broes taking 1-36 off nine overs and Mitchell 1-43 off six – as ACT Southern fell short of the required total.
Top order bat Broes finished the carnival with a total of 119 runs, including 79 against eventual victors Riverina. Mitchell scored 55 runs, snared two wickets, took a catch and pulled off a run-out over the four days.
