The African team will be working hard to promote the general classification chances of Nathan Haas over the back half of the six-stage event, while sprinter Renshaw is a chance of featuring in the finale.
It meant stage three was more about conserving energy than attacking for Dimension Data as they made their way through the 144 kilometres from Glenelg to Victor Harbor.
They did work to reel in the days’ breakaway to help protect Haas’ standing, but did not really push in the final sprint won by Caleb Ewan.
Bathurst talent Renshaw crossed in 43rd position, four seconds down on Ewan.
“With two really hard stages coming up and focusing on keeping Nathan up there in the overall, we decided to stay safe today, trying to keep as much energy as possible,” Dimension Data’s sports director Alex Sans Vega said.
