One of Panthers recruits for the 2017 Group 10 premier league season, second rower Garrett Field, will not be pulling on the black jersey this year.
The former Orange CYMS talent, who most recently played for the Central Queensland Capras, has returned to Queensland after his wife was accepted into university at Rockhampton.
Though losing a player of his talent could be a major blow for some clubs, Panthers have a host of options in the forwards. At this stage it seems likely that coach Todd Barrow will slot into the back row.
The men in black have been training well in the lead up to the club’s annual knockout, where they will start as defending champions.
"It was good to win it last year and it would be nice to do it again,” Barrow said. “The club does an excellent job running it and we’re happy to support it.”
