Renshaw, a previous wearer of the tour’s ochre jersey, did his best to help Haas over the annual six-stage event.
At the halfway point Haas sat fifth in the general classification, but he had moved up into third heading into the sixth stage – a 90 kilometre, two-hour criterium in central Adelaide on Sunday.
As the finish line approached Bathurst talent Renshaw did his best to pilot Haas towards the head of the peloton for the final sprint.
Haas placed ninth behind Caleb Ewan, but he was nudged out of a podium spot by Jay McCarthy, who had earned a mid-stage time bonus. Richie Porte was crowned the overall victor.
Still, Haas was not too disappointed.
“The energy we have in the team feels like a big win, and that is what makes me really proud,” Haas said.
