Bathurst City Amateur Swim Club head coach Steve Howell said he and his staff continued to be amazed by the club members’ efforts.
”We absolutely smashed it. Myself and the other coaches Josh and Cynthia couldn’t be more proud of them all,” he said.
“We had a stack of kids qualify for the Country Championships and a lot of kids managed to get personal bests in multiple races.
“I’d say we had around a dozen kids who put up better times than what they had already qualified with or who managed to qualify and hadn’t done so already.”
Even with a short three-week run of training in the lead up to the Bathurst meeting Howell was hopeful his group could produce a strong performance.
“I was quietly confident they would do well,” he said.
“I’ve been coaching this group for just over 12 months now but it’s my first time doing so without mentoring from someone else. The other coaches have helped out so much.”
The Bathurst club now move on to the Regional Country Championship at Wellington this weekend before travelling to the Mountains and Plains Championship at Lithgow on the following Saturday.
