Fresh from performing at the Sydney Fringe Festival, Mr Murphy was in costume for his character Lafcadio in his show Ghost Jam!
“Ghost Jam! combines silly, spooky storytelling with booming music,” he said.
“The show is a re-imagining of Kwaidan, a trailblazing anthology of Japanese ghost stories.”
Kwaidan is in fact a Japanese horror film from the 1960s inspired by the works by Greek author Lafcadio Hearn, but Mr Murphy’s performance left the children in fits of laughter.
Mr Murphy said with Japan hosting the next Olympic Games in 2020, Ghost Jam! provides a great way for children to learn more about the country beyond sushi, sumo-wrestlers and Super Mario.
After Mr Murphy’s show, a workshop was made available for children to create their own original spooky, ghost narratives.
