Watts was the first woman home in a time of 56 minutes and 36 seconds.
Orange’s Jess Richards was just under a minute away in 57:33 while Laura Wolfson filled the minor placings.
The 2.5 kilometre run, 200 metre swim, 16km bike leg, 200m swim and 2.5km run was not something Watts was pumped to take on at first but the Lithgow competitor soon found her groove.
“I wasn’t really looking forward to it when I got up this morning, thinking ‘I don’t feel like doing a triathlon today’, and then I forgot it was the five legs,” she said.
“I just paced myself throughout it and I actually felt pretty good.
“I felt really good on the start of the bike and just kept going through my paces on the swim. There were a couple of good Orange riders who came down for the race and I was looking out for them.”
Thursday’s win continues a run of great news and results for Watts.
Dunc Gray Velodrome was the venue for Watts’ silver medal in the under 19s NSW individual pursuit on the weekend.
It got even better for Watts on Wednesday.
“I’ve come back from state track cycling and just yesterday I made the [NSW] long team. Hopefully I can make the short team and go off to Brisbane for nationals,” she said.
The short team will be named mid-February.
