Chloe McCarthy, 21, of Moresy Crescent, Whalan, appeared before Magistrate Michael Allen last month, charged with assault an officer in the execution of duty.
Police facts tendered to the court told how at 10.15pm on Saturday, December 3, 2016, police were called to a public order incident in Tyndall Street Kelso.
The incident involved upwards of 40 people, with the entire group acting in an aggressive manner, either making threats towards each other or engaged in confrontations of physical violence.
At one point a female, McCarthy’s friend, was arrested at the scene and conveyed from the area.
After her arrest McCarthy approached police demanding to know “where her friend was going.”
She became argumentative with police and began swearing at them.
A detective said to McCarthy “If you stop swearing and carrying on, we will talk to you.”
McCarthy then stepped forward, and hit him in the right shoulder.
The detective said to her “Wake up to yourself and stop carrying on, you can’t assault police.”
With this she hit the detective’s shoulder with some force. She was then restrained and taken back to the police station where she was charged.
References tendered to the court from colleagues including a duty manager at St Mary's Rugby Leagues Club where McCarthy works spoke about a polite and trustworthy staff member.
Mr Allen dealt with the matter by way of a conditional discharge, placing her on a Section 10 (1)(b) Bond for 12 months.
