About 2pm Saturday afternoon, police were called to Barry Gurdon Drive at Mount Panorama following reports of a man allegedly driving a Holden Commodore dangerously through a camping ground.
The 38-year-old is alleged to have almost ran over a three-year-old child during the incident.
Highway Patrol Officers from Chifley Local Area Command (LAC) at the scene conducted a breath test on the man.
Upon returning a positive result, he was arrested and taken to Bathurst Police Station to undergo a breath analysis.
There, he returned a reading of 0.169.
He was charged with drive with high range PCA, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerously and interfere with person’s enjoyment or risk safety.
The man was given conditional bail and is due to appear at Bathurst Local Court on Monday, March 13.
His licence was suspended following the incident.
Chifley LAC duty officer Inspector Scott Bolton said, overall, the three-day Bathurst 12 Hour was very good for police.
Additional officers were brought on for the event to carry out patrols across the city and Mount Panorama.
“Generally in town too it was pretty good, just a few people had to be moved on,” Inspector Bolton said.
Police will also be out in force on the region’s roads following the 12 Hour to ensure motorists are doing the right thing as they head home.
“As usual, we will be doing breath tests, both RBT and stationary,” Inspector Bolton said.
