Over 1,000 car lovers flocked to the now sleepy town of Kandos last weekend for the annual two day street machine show ’n shine and car event festival.

Once renowned for its cement production, Kandos is now second only to the famous Canberra Summernats for car shows, with the event staged at Simpkins Park.
Local enthusiasts scooped the trophy pool after the belching multicoloured tyre smoke had cleared, with no less than six locals taking home some stunning trophies.
Portland’s Brett Battersby was the winner of the Forced Induction Burnout competition driving his blown Toyota Hilux 4WD ute and also claimed the prestigious Police Award for amazing engineering.
It was a real family affair for Bathurst’s Danny and Chloe Board with the fabulous father and daughter duo taking home three terrific trophies.
Dad Danny took out the Best Modified category with his brilliant blue VK Holden one tonne table top ute then scorched the tyres to take a top 10 position in the Forced Induction Burnout class.
Daughter Chloe, a regular competitor at the Cullen Bullen Speedway, showed her passion for speed and tyre smoke by winning the Female Go to Whoa in her bare metal presented VK Commodore sedan.
Chloe also displayed her lead foot skills by competing in the crowd pleasing burnouts but unfortunately clipped a barrier during her power steering free tyre tearing encounter.
Confined to a wheelchair proved no disability for Lithgow’s Todd Bulkeley. He upstaged his rivals to claim the Best Coupe/Tudor and Best Retrotech Best Custom categories with his rare red Datsun 1600 coupe built from a rusty wreck.
Andrew Blackley of Cullen Bullen, another full-time speedway competitor, was placed in the top 10 Normally Aspirated Burnout Class driving his V8 Commodore.
Rounding out the impressive group of local award winners was Brendon McManus of Wallerawang.
He notched up a top 10 position in the Four & Six Cylinder Burnout Class at the wheel of his smokin’ Holden Commodore ute.
