Fresh off their MCC Presidents Cup triumph Bathurst will be eager to keep the wins coming when they take to the Sportsground.
Friday’s opening match of the carnival against hosts Orange had to be postponed but Bathurst still get the opportunity to throw the bat around against Blue Mountains and attempt to their momentum going.
Bathurst captain Jameel Qureshi is feeling confident ahead of Sunday’s match.
“I think we’ve got a very well balanced side. We’ve got guys there who can hit it, like Wayne and Dave Sellers and Derryn Clayton but guys who can also get going early like Ryan Peacock and myself,” he said.
“I’ve been lucky enough to have played in a few decent Twenty20 competitions. I’ve played the Royal Hotel Cup in Orange, which is a really good competition, and so is the Regional Big Bash.
“It [Twenty20] is a different sort of game. I think everyone focuses on the big shots but it’s actually the little things like running between the wickets, catching and fielding that can make the difference.”
There’s no Matt Stephen or Aaron Seymour for the hosts but strong batting options like Henry Shoemark and Sam Macpherson will be available.
Bathurst won’t be short on bowling options either as Luke Powell, Mike Waldren and Ben Parsons get set to play.
Qureshi hopes his side can produce the same cricket which earned them Presidents Cup glory.
“We definitely want to try and keep the momentum going. We’ve got a lot of young guys coming into this team and it’s much easier for people to come into a team who is developing a winning culture,” he said.
Bathurst and Blue Mountains face off from 10am on Sunday.
Blue Mountains will back up in the afternoon to take on Orange, also at the Sportsground, from 2pm.
No time has been confirmed yet for the rescheduled match between Bathurst and Orange.
