Mr Genovese had the misfortune of fracturing both wrists and dislocating his finger after the brake on his bike jammed, sending him over the handlebars.
“I caused a fair bit of damage to myself but while it was a painful experience I got to see first-hand the wonderful community spirit that exists in Bathurst,” he said.
“It started with Mr and Mrs Cohen, who came to my aid and comforted me until I was able to be transported to the hospital where I received the care and attention you would normally only expect to receive from your family.
“The seven hours I spent in the emergency ward was my first ever stay in a hospital and it allowed me to witness the tremendous dedication, challenges and pressures the staff deal with every day.”
Despite fracturing his wrists, Mark said he was more determined than ever to do the B2B.
