Sold-out sessions from the Opera House’s fifth All About Women festival will be streamed live to 26 venues around Australia and New Zealand, including Academy Award-winner Geena Davis and the Nasty Women panel.
Davis will share insights, garnered from her stellar three-decade career and the work of her institute The Geena Davis Institute of Gender in Media, in Hollywood and the global film industry in her talk Women and Media.
Geena will discuss how much work still needs to be done before film, television and streaming services represent the full spectrum of gender and why this is so important for young audiences the world over.
Satellite audiences will participate in an exclusive backstage interview with Jessa Crispin to explore what it means to be a feminist as she discusses her book Why I'm Not A Feminist. Audiences will then be able to join the discussion on what happens when women stop attempting to conform.
“The ever-growing appetite for what All About Women offers is underlined by the fact that our satellite program is growing in terms of the number of participating venues and geographic reach each year,” says Danielle Harvey, head of International Development at the Sydney Opera House and co-curator of All About Women.
”Women are banding together more than ever at the moment. This program is a way to feed that sense of community, regardless of distance.”
Rounding out the event at BMEC will be a local panel of women discussing the barriers that women in Regional Australia face includes Arts OutWest CEO Tracey Callinan, and Professor Jo-Ann Reid from Charles Sturt University.
The modest ticket price will include a light lunch and ticket proceeds will be used to support Bathurst Writer’s & Reader’s Festival in May.
