SJS junior Daniel Mortimer is tipped to miss out on Shane Flanagan’s final 17 for Monday morning’s World Club Challenge clash with English Super League champions Wigan.

Mortimer was in line to start at hooker at the Sharks following the retirement of premiership-winning rake Michael Ennis.

But the former Parramatta, Sydney Roosters and Gold Coast Titans utility has been usurped in the race for the hooking duties by young Jayden Brailey and Nu Brown.

Mortimer remains in the hunt to play in Cronulla’s opening round of the NRL season against the Broncos on March 2.
