In what was her first start, My Sweetchilliphilly won by a staggering 59.7 metres and broke the two-year-old filly mile rate record at 1,730 metres.
The old record of 1.56.1 posted by Don’t Think Twice in March, 2016, was cut down to 1.55.3 by the two-year-old.
The brown filly showed the punters why they backed her to favouritism, ($1.30) in the S & J Turnbull St Stanislaus College Pace.
Driver Chris Geary may have driven his easiest winner.
“She’s a lovely filly. She’s always shown a lot of ability and potential and it was good for her to come down here, especially leading into the Crown Carnival, and show people what she can do,” he said.
“It’s always good to come out here and put a bit of writing on the wall and you always gain yourself a lot of respect going into those sort of races.”
The performance by My Sweetchilliphilly will surely put her in contention to be one of the favourites for next month’s Gold Tiara.
“At this time of year, there’s always a lot of nice horses that pop up. Even a few that we haven’t seen yet,” Geary said.
“As far as she goes, I’m really happy with her and I’m sure she’ll improve a lot from that [performance].
“It was only her first start and she’s only had the one quiet trial, so I’m sure she’ll take a bit of fitness and experience away from that.
“Hopefully she can continue to improve.”
When it comes to training, My Sweetchilliphilly is quite similar to how she races.
Geary said that she is almost the same everyday.
“She’ll go out and whether she goes out on the track 100 times, she’ll still look at the same thing, in the same spot. She’s just really green and immature, but the more racing she does, the better she’ll get,” he said.
Geary said, with time and experience, the brown filly has plenty of time to development into a great horse.
My Sweetchilliphilly is trained by Shane and Lauren Tritton, who are based out of Menangle.
“Shane and Lauren have got quite a large team that work out at Menangle and they do a great job,” Geary said.
“She’s [My Sweetchilliphilly] definitely in good hands and come round to these big races, they’ll [the trainers] have her spot on.”
Coming in second was Amanda Turnbull’s trained and driven Now Eye See ($4.50).
New Zealand filly Ideal T J ($10) finished third.
Steve Turnbull drove Quinzel ($23.10) to fourth, while Bernie Hewitt was drove fifth placed Myanga Sportsgirl ($41.40).
