Stripped back to their undies, over 50 people supported the city’s first Cupid’s Undie Run, aimed at raising money and awareness for people with neurobibromatosis, a genetic condition characterised by the growth of benign tumours.
Originating in the US, the Undie Run arrived in Australia in 2015 when Sydney hosted the event for the first time.
Last year Melbourne and the Gold Coast got on board and in 2017, 12 cities, including Bathurst hosted the event.
Race director Olive Lockett, said on Sunday she was ecstatic with the turn out, and hopes the event can be held annually in Bathurst.
“It’s awesome,” she said of the turnout to Sunday’s run.
“I’d especially like to give a big shout out to the Dancin’ Divas, who turned up in heels to do the run.”
She said she was really happy with how many people got involved, especially as the run is in it’s first year.
“I’d love to bring it back again next year; I think we’d have even more people,” she said.
Alesha Morrisson who was one of the runners, and part of the 15-strong contingent from Dancin’ Divas, said they decided to get involved to help a good cause.
“We [the Dancin’ Divas] decided as a group to do this, and because I'm studying to be a pediatric nurse, I thought it was good to support the tumour foundation,” she said.
Angela Robertson, who owns Dancin’ Divas, said the studio helps out a number of charities every year, and thought this was a great idea to support.
“The Divas have raised over $2000 as a group, which is great,” Angela said.
As an added incentive for people to support the group, Ang said she would wear high heels if people donated over $1,000 to the charity, and true to her work, she, and the other Divas completed the run in six inch heels.
She said her group of 15 runners did lots of pole work and Burlesque in preparation for the fun run. Following the run participants enjoyed pizza at the Church Bar.
