THERE are a lot of times when Parade feels very proud to live in Bathurst, and this week another time sprung up right in front of her.

Bushfires strike at the heart of many Aussies, and the ferocity and devastation they leave behind leaves many people in despair.
And, when the huge 55,000 hectare Sir Ivan blaze raged through the Warrumbungle Shire just north of Bathurst recently, our great community sprung into action.
The creation of the Hay2Help project ignited a desire in people from all walks of life to help out.
The idea was to take truckloads of donated hay to stock in the fire-affected areas, but so much more has been donated.
Bathurst people have give their time, transport, cash and labor to help make this horrible for time for those impacted by the fire just a little easier.
Parade heard that one family in particular donated two semi-trailer loads of hay – for those of us who aren’t familiar with hay prices, that’s worth at least $4000.
Other families have purchased hay just so they could donate it to Hay2Help.
So to all of those who have helped, and continue to help, Parade would like to give a big shout out and say thanks for making Bathurst the fantastic city that it is.

Swimmingly back at work for duty
ONE month, depending on how you look at it, can be a long time or it can just fly right by.
Parade has just returned from a month of holiday, most of which was spent sunning, swimming and drinking the odd cocktail or two in Queensland.
She arrived back to Bathurst last week refreshed and keen to get back to work after the well-earned break.
However, on Monday when she arrived for duty she thought: “Wow, eight hours is a long time to spend in the office.”
Then, right on queue at 2.30pm as Parade was madly trying to file stories for the paper the thoughts passing through her head were simple.
“I need some more hours in my day”.
