A swift response by police brought the situation quickly under control.
Eye witnesses said they heard yelling and threats made between the teenagers, some of whom claimed to be armed.
Inspector Gerard Powell from Chifley Local Area Command said police were inundated with calls from people in Bathurst Stocklands, who were watching the situation unfold.
After hearing the group threatening each other callers feared the boys were armed, prompting the enormous response from police, with at least five units, including police and plain clothes detectives responding to the situation.
Inspector Powell said police were inundated with calls as the group of teenagers went from William Street through the shopping centre, before being arrested in Howick Street.
“People were really concerned; we received a lot of calls” he said of the enormous police response.
Inspector Powell said it was alleged the group of four people were yelling and fighting as they made their way through the shopping centre, before trying to run off.
Officers arrested all four at the scene.
Inspector Powell said police will be reviewing CCTV from the area, as investigations continue.
Paramedics also attended the scene.
A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said “we were alerted to an assault in William Street shortly after 4pm, but we were not required to treat or transport anyone as a result.”
An eye witness who saw the situation unfold said they heard "all this yelling” before police “came from everywhere.”
