At one stage, three quarters of the way through the day, young Matt Chahda was sitting in a strong 17th position, ahead of the likes of Jamie Whincup, David Reynolds, Chaz Mostert and young 16-year-old team-mate Alex Rullo who was actually granted a dispensation for a Super License to compete in the 2017 VASC.
Albury-based Chahda was allowed to test the number three LDM Supercar for the day and had a reasonable trouble-free day which in reality will look good for him in a hope to finally be dispensed to compete in the season.
At the end of the day though, it was the Sengled Nissan Altima of Rick Kelly for Nissan Motorsport who took the honours with the fastest time ever around Sydney Motorsport Park on the new Dunlop compound.
There was less than a tenth of a second between himself and New Penske DJR recruit Scott McLaughlin. Fabian Coulthard was third in the second of the Penske Falcons. In a surprising result, Craig Lowndes was well out of the 20 in his Caltex Vortex 888 machine. Although these results shocked some, any believe the Supertest is nothing more than a shakedown for the season.
All in all though, after last year's Supercars results, having more winners in one season than ever before, we may be in for another record breaking year.
