Saloon Passage settled into second place early and held the position, before being challenged by Charlaval ($14.10) in the last 200 metres.
Robert Morris tried his best to drive Charlaval ahead of Saloon Passage, but it was Hurst’s six-year-old bay gelding that claimed second place.
The gelding finished 0.3 metres ahead of Charlaval, but was 3.8 metres behind the eventual winner – favourite Anthony For Love ($1.70), driven by Chris Geary.
Saloon Passage, a former Group winner, has a handy record, winning 22 races from 73 starts.
The gelding’s record also includes 14 seconds and 12 thirds, for 48 placings in his career.
Katy Perry ($4.80), the former Alabar Breeders Crown Series 2014 final winner, finished fourth, driven by Andy McCarthy.
