As fire burnt on private property adjoining the Vulcan State Forest near Isabella on the weekend, Forestry Corporation of NSW harvesting supervisor Glen Christie-Johnston came across the squirrel.
“The squirrel glider appeared to have fallen or been knocked out of a tree during firefighters’ efforts to quickly build containment lines around the fire,” Forestry regional manager Jason Molkentin said. “He was still sleeping and the crew was able to return him to his tree safely and unharmed.”
Crews were working to extinguish a fire that ignited following lightning strikes.
