McCabe said the ride won the race, as Jean Van Overmeire was on the saddle for the six-year-old bay or brown gelding.
“He probably couldn’t have won it on 61 [kilograms]. He had a claim and carried 58 instead,” he said.
“It was a good win and it panned out how we expected it to.”
Overmeire, a first year apprentice, is wanting to ride I’m Away in his next big hit out – the Wellington Cup.

McCabe is unsure for what is next for the gelding, after the cup.
“With a higher benchmark, he’ll have to carry more and I don’t think he can carry much more,” he said.
“He’s a much lighter horse and he likes to gallop in between runs.”
I’m Away has been described as a “cheeky” horse, trotting and cantering every week and races only every few weeks.
Yet McCabe has no complaints for the gelding.
“He’s been great for me and I’ve only been in the game for five months.”
I’m Away’s win now brings up two career victories, both at Towac Park.
