Ed Cowan topped scored for the Blues, with 115 runs off 204 balls.
Tasmania built a strong 237 run lead, featuring a double century from George Bailey (200, not out).
Even though Copeland did not take a wicket, his bowling was on point.
He finished Tasmania’s innings with 0-103 off 44 overs, which featured 14 maidens.
NSW have a tough job on their hands and went out to bat first in the second innings.
Nick Larkin and Daniel Hughes opened for the Blues, with Larkin being caught out (15 runs) by Tim Paine.
Hughes (35 runs) and Cowan (15 runs) remain in for NSW, on day three.
